Terrell County was formed in 1856 from Lee and Randolph Counties. It was named for Dr. William Terrell of Hancock County, a member of the Georgia legislature and representative in congress. It is in the southwestern part of the state and is bounded on the north by Webster and Sumter counties, on the east by Lee, on the south by Dougherty and Calhoun and on the west by Randolph. The county seat is Dawson. Parrott, Bronwood and Sasser are other towns in Terrell County.
